i books G3 Dual usb with graphics problem
« on: August 26, 2018, 03:47:00 AM »

Hi,
The Dual usb i books G3 were the  most problematic of the power books due to the high operating temperature causing the warping  and flexing allowing the solder on the graphics chips to breakdown.
A lot of these machines were replaced by Apple due to this problem.
Some fixes to the graphics chip failure were posted on U tube and on web pages.
These were basically solder reflow techniques, and they worked.
I had some success with two very good condition I books recently acquired using a solder reflow technique. I got these laptops to try out a repair and see if they would work.
The criteria was to look for unopened or not completely dismantled i books.
I will post about the method which I used which required minimal taking apart and quickly
achieved results , both i books immediately booted into the operating system on connecting to a power source.
